January 22-29th: Prayer & Fasting

Each evening the church will be open at 7pm for a time of prayer. The greatest and most effective tool is prayer.
Missional. Supporting missions is not just something we do financially, but through prayer, work & witness teams, and staying connected to our missionaries. The mission field is not just overseas, but your neighborhood, job place, and school are a mission field.

What We Believe

The Church of the Nazarene is a Great Commission church. Our mission is to make Christlike disciples in the nations. We believe that God offers to everyone forgiveness, peace, joy, purpose, love, meaning in life, and the promise of heaven when life is over by entering and experiencing a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We are called to take this message to people everywhere. The Church of the Nazarene is also a holiness church. We believe that Christians can experience a deeper level of life in which there is victory over sin, power to witness and serve, and a richer fellowship with God, all through the infilling of the Holy Spirit.We believe in one God-the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.

Location & Directions

Located off I-64, Take the Teays Valley Exit 39, we are right between Huntington and Charleston. From Huntington, turn right and from Charleston turn left off the exit. Our church is located exactly one mile off the exit on the left beside Chapman Funeral Home.

Where is the children's ministry located?All of the children's ministries are located in the Children's Building. Are there Sunday School classes for children?Yes. There is a nursery class, toddlers, Kindergarten, 1-2, and 3-5th. All of these are at 9:45am on Sunday mornings.What is there for children during Worship?Mrs. Anna, Children's Pastor, has a special time of worship for the children in the upstairs room in the Children's Building. There is singing, art, a lesson, and usually a yummy snack :-) The first Sunday of each month is Waffle Sunday. One Sunday a month is also Missions Sunday where the children learn about a different country and learn about their culture hands on.Are there any special events just for children?You bet! We have Trunk or Treat in the Fall, Toyland at Christmas, Eggstravaganza in the Spring, and participate in Church Camp in Summersville, WV and other events! Is there a nursery?Yes. Nursery is provided for every service under the direction of Kelly Davis, Nursery Coordinator. Are the children's workers screened?Yes. All of our children's leaders and assistants have been screened and are currently preparing to go through the Nazarene Safe training program.

Service 2 What ages are considered Student Ministry?Our student ministry begins with 6th grade and goes through College age.When does the Student Ministry meet?We meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm in the Teen Center (located in the basement of the house on the back of the parking lot). What is a typical Wednesday night like?Begin with a little hang out time, air hockey, bball, or just catching up on the week... a messy game or maybe a team builder game... Pastor Bethany gives a lesson/ devotional... prayer time... and usually we end with something yummy :-) However, that's a "typical" Wednesday. (and we aren't always "typical")What are some of the events or gatherings that the student ministry does?Take a deep breath and hold on to your seats... SONFEST, Snowtubing, BLAST _ MVNU, Retreats, Lock-In's, bowling, movie nights, community projects, concerts, ice skating, church camp, and that's just a few! What's the best part about being apart of the student ministry?Hanging out with youth your own age while learning more about God and digging deeper into our faith. (However, the awesome trips make it pretty sweet too!)

Service 3 Women's MinistryWe have a very actice women's ministry that meets once a month for a "Ladies Night Out" at one of the local restaurants, a small group the DIVAs (Discipling In Various Areas) that meets on Wednesday evenings at Pastor Patty's home, and they also have special trips and events that will take place throughout the year. Prime-Timers MinistryOur 55+ group meets once a month for breakfast the first Friday of each month. They also have a special luncheon at Christmas and a few other gatherings throughout the year. Community Outreach

Clothing Closet: Our clothing ministry that we are able to open to the community the last Saturday of each month. We have clothing from newborn- adults, and all of the clothing is available free. The Clothing Closet is located in the basement of the church. Anna Pennington oversees this ministry.Ladies Exercise: Every Monday and Thursday evening a free one hour exercise class is offered to the ladies in the community beginning at 6:30pm. This is led by the instructor, Donna Taylor. Regency Place: Each Wednesday evening at 6pm, we have a service at the Regency Place retirement center. Homer & Phyllis Hudson have overseen this ministry for the past 10 years. Teays Manor: Teays Manor is another retirement housing where we have a Sunday evening service at 6pm led by Butch & Lisa Sharps, and a bible study on Thursday evenings led by Dan Butler. LIFE Tutoring: Our tutoring program is free and available to the community for grades K through 12. This is our third year for the program and we are blessed to have volunteer tutors who give of their time every Monday throughout the school year.

Pastor Charles Williams, Senior Pastor

Born and raised in West Virginia, Pastor Williams (also known as Pastor "Sonny") has been in the ministry for 32 years. He will soon be starting his 19th year as Pastor at TVCN. Pastor Sonny attended and graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, while owning and operating two barber shops (Sonny's Barber Shop). It was there at his shop that he met his wife, Patty. They have been married for 31 years and have two grown children: Abraham (Courtney) and Bethany (Adam). Pastor Williams not only connects with the church, but has a connection with the community. He enjoys painting, spending time with family, and his new found hobby is playing Word With Friends on his iPad.

Mrs. Anna MillerChildren's MinistryMrs. Anna (as the Children call her) has been on staff at Teays Valley for the past 6 years. She goes beyond being the Children's Ministry Director, and really becomes a "mother" to the children. She and her husband, Arch, are parents to 4 kids and one grandchild. Besides being the Children's Director at TVCN, she is the 6th grade teacher at Teays Valley Christian.
Pastor Patty WilliamsWorship & AdministrativePatty has served alongside her husband, Pastor Sonny for the past 18 years. She has always felt the call to ministry, and in August 2010 she was ordained as an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene. Patty also works at the WV South District Office as the Administrative Assistant and serves as the District NMI President. Patty enjoys playing the piano, being with family, and no matter what you can always find her laughing and giving you the encouraging words "you're doing good honey!".
Pastor Bethany CarrAssociate & LIFE TutoringBethany has been serving on staff at Teays Valley for the past 4 years as an Associate Pastor and the LIFE Tutoring Director. She attended Trevecca Nazarene University a& Mount Vernon Nazarene University majoring in Religion. She was ordained in August of 2010. She has been married to her husband, Adam, for 2 years. They are both very active and involved in the church and District activities. Bethany enjoys photography, driving around with no where to go, going to concerts, and hanging out with the teens, friends, and family. (Oh, her boss is also her Dad!)

LIFE Tutoring No Frame

Tutoring Program

We are currently in our 3rd year of offering free tutoring to the community. Our program offers one-on-one tutoring for 30 minute sessions for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Our tutors are all volunteer, and we are very blessed not with the opportunity to have this program, but for the tutors who give of their own personal time. Reading Camp

The past two years we have been offered a one week "Reading Camp" for students grades Pre-K through 3rd grade. This camp is available to help boost a students reading and to show that reading can be FUN! Stay tuned for the dates of Reading Camp 2012!
